New Building Updates

In September 2013 a new building for the Ockendon Studio School opens. You can follow the progress of the building works here.

June 2013

The scaffolding has now gone up around the building as the roof is being installed. In addition to this the exterior is having the insulation and the Siberian larch cladding fitted whilst the interior receives it’s fire retardant treatment. However, the most exciting addition to the building is the glass curtain walling to the front captured below before the scaffolding went up.

Since the last update in March the construction of the new building has gone from foundations to the roof stage. Early  May a giant crane came on site to lift the enormous roof beams into place that span the large open plan business centre which will be the hub of activity in the building and hosts catering facilities, soft seated areas and both networking and individual working areas.

As we reach the 100 days to opening point of the countdown on May 26th I have put together a fly through of the construction so far on Youtube at http://youtu.be/UcW_KEpenm4

March 2013

The worst of the snow passed South Ockendon so building work continued at a good pace on-site. The piling is now completed and Cabinco have started on the outer framework that will ring the building. They will then build the network of joists to make up the underfloor, which will have thick insulation cut to size and neatly fitted between the joists.

January 2013

It has been a busy month with the arrival of builders portacabins, a large section of the car park being fenced off and diggers of various sizes on site to begin the groundwork.

Designs on how the interior might look have been drawn up by interior design specialist Envoplan adding another wow factor to what is already a stunning building design that is full of natural light with its glass walls and modern design. The interior as you can see is equally modern and has a real business feel to it, exactly what our Studio School students and setting the tone for them when having meetings and working on business projects.

The diggers have arrived today!  Not quite the first spade in the ground for our new buildings but simply to prepare temporary car parking spaces to allow access for when the new building works commence. This should hopefully sometime in early December once the Board of Governors have approved the successful contractor later this  month.
