Results of our Ofsted Inspection 2018

The Ockendon Academy Ofsted report has been released following the inspection that took place on 9th and 10th October 2018.  This inspection was carried out under Section 5 of the Education Act 2005.

I am very pleased to inform you that The Ockendon Academy Sixth Form has been judged ‘Good’. The inspection team commented on the academic progress students make and the quality of the 16-19 programmes along with the care guidance and support students receive. Our Sixth Form is rapidly developing and continues to grow into a thriving learning environment where students’ academic achievement is now in line with that of other students nationally.

Teaching, learning and assessment is good throughout Years 12 and 13 with professional relationships between teachers and students being “supportive in helping students to make progress”. Enthusiasm in learning is evident from teachers and students alike and we provide an environment where “students feel very well cared for”. We pride ourselves on small numbers in each year group which ensures “each student is well known to staff”.

One parent commented that we are “providing opportunities to visit universities at the start of Year 12. The students are well resourced and taught in small groups by knowledgeable, approachable staff”. We offer “impartial careers guidance” as part of our study programmes to equip students for higher education and work, with work placements a “high priority”.

Students outcomes and the quality of Learning and Teaching will continue to be a main priority, with training sessions focusing on improving this along with accelerating rates of progress for our students.

We would like to thank parents, carers and staff for the multitude of positive feedback which was received by the inspectors. We remain fully committed to providing a high standard of education for the students at The Ockendon Academy and Sixth Form and will strive to ensure the best possible outcomes for all students. It is our aim to keep you involved and fully informed throughout our improvement process.
